  • Mega Bucks Auction

Just came back from my first Mega Bucks auction.  It was so cool!

(For those who don't live in the area, Mega Bucks are like play money that is printed in our newspapers from January through March.  You collect them and then use them like real money to buy at the auction.)

We had been saving our Mega Bucks since January and thanks to my Mom, Gram and Pap, had amassed what we thought was a lot.  Well when the first few items up for auction "sold" for over a billion bucks, we thought we didn't have a chance at anything.  But we waited just to see how it would go.  And guess what?  We won something!  It's a week-long soccer camp for James.  He is so excited!  I'm so glad we didn't get discouraged and leave in the beginning!

  • Homeschool

Status of our 2007-2008 homeschooling year:

11th grader is constantly behind in his work.  As of today, though, he's only about a day and a half behind, so woo hoo!

PreK-age son is moving slowly through "My Father's World" kindergarten program.  Some days he wants to "do school" and others not so much.  IF we get through the program by August, we will begin their 1st grade program in September.  This week's lessons are finishing up the L-Leaf unit and beginning the A-Apple unit.  Can't wait to make applesauce!  This program just has such wonderful activities.

  • YAY!

Woo hoo - my taxes are done!  Finally!  Done and e-filed!  And my son's taxes are done and ready to go in the mail.  Yippee.  We are getting a lot less back this year, but that is because my hubby upped his deductions so that we get more in the paycheck instead of letting the IRS hold onto it for us all year long.  :)

In other news, our littlest is now 18 MONTHS OLD!  Amazing.  When Sarah was his age, he was soon to be born!  So if/when God blesses us with another baby, there will be a bigger gap than last time. Honestly I am enjoying the break, because pregnancy is always so hard on me and I find it difficult to take care of everything when I am feeling so sick for so long.  Even when not pregnant I have a hard time getting everything done in a day!

I have also begun using cloth diapers again.  We got them when the baby was 3 months and at 6 months we stopped (I thought he had outgrown them, but didn't realize I just needed to put a liner in to double absorbency!).  Well recently I got them out again and they still fit!  At least for now.  So I'm using them.  I ordered some doublers from Walmart.com, of all places, but they also sell the diapers I use, so they had the ones to go with them.  When I asked hubby if we could go ahead and buy a batch of the next size once these are outgrown, he said he wasn't sure.  So I said, well, I'll just use my birthday money (not til September!) if I have to!  So he knows I am serious about continuing!

  • My Mom

As I posted last week, my Mom lost 2 of her basset hounds recently - one last Friday and one the previous Thursday.  Well, unbelievably, today she has lost another.  Maggie had cancer of the lymph nodes and bladder and had a large tumor and other issues.  They could do nothing else for her, so my Mom had to let her go.  This is so devastating for her, she is really having a difficult time dealing with losing 3 beloved companions within 3 weeks.  Please pray for  comfort, strength and healing for her.

  • Miscellaneous

    Some updates:

HOMESCHOOLING: I decided to just buckle down and work with my 5yo on his kindergarten curriculum each day.  If we miss a day, we are doing 2 days at once, which isn't a big deal because a days' work takes about a 1/2 hour at this point.  If we keep at it, we will be able to start 1st grade in September.  I am so excited about this curriculum.  The K focuses on God's word intermingled with science topics and phonics.  The 1st grade goes through major stories of the whole bible, Genesis to Revelation, with their own Bible reader.  It's just awesome.  Can't wait for the Homeschool Convention in May!

BIRTHDAYS:  We are in the midst of birthday season around here!  My 2nd son's was January 7th.  Now this month we have my husband (Feb 13), and my 1st son and daughter (both Feb 22).  Not to mention my Mom & Pop's anniversary and Valentine's Day, (both Feb 14).  It's an exciting month, but so busy!  We are going to do one family party for the birthdays and as far as individually, I haven't decided yet.  My daughter (turning 3) wants a "Princess party", specifically with "Ariel" from the Little Mermaid.  I think we're going to Chuck E Cheese but of course that's weather permitting.

My MOM: My mom is also Mom to 4 wonderful basset hounds, well 2 are now in heaven.  She had to put one down last Thursday and this morning, another died peacefully in his sleep.  He had a chronic illness, so praise the Lord it was peaceful.

Prayers please for my Mom, thanks!

  • Need some homeschooling encouragement!

I started loosely schooling my 5 year old in July but as of now we have only done about 14 days total.  I am trying to decide if I should just stretch it out over 2 years since it's kindergarten and he just turned 5 anyway, or to get with it and have the year done by the end of August.  Maybe I should just leave it up to him.
